Welcome to the "Winchers Wonderland".

Have you ever wondered how it is that by merely flashing a few lights at the launch point, your glider rushes forward and your flight begins? Well, please spare a thought for those of the team that spend most of their evening in that bizarre machine at the other end of the airfield.

Our aims are threefold:

bullet

To get you up in the air safely

bullet

To keep you guessing how quickly it’s going to happen

bullet

To get to the curry faster than you lot at the end of the evening

Ian Keen

Mike Sankey

Chris Sterritt

Never knowingly awake - which explains some of those launches. Wears a lot of rubber - he claims it's SCUBA gear...

For the last few centuries, our regular winchies have been Mike and Ian. If you’ve ever had that perfect launch, then either Mike or Ian were down there working their magic. For a more exciting start to your flight, you could do no worse than choosing our most recent winch wannabe, Chris. Ka8 pilots delight in having the opportunity to practice their ‘too fast’ signals every time he has control!

Please consider training for the winch as well, because without a winch operator, nobody would get to fly in the evenings – and you do get to the curry first!
